Puff Pastry Apple Roses

Number of servings: 6
Preparation time: 45 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • Puff pastry
  • 3 medium-sized apples
  • Juice from half a lemon
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tsp brown sugar
  • Butter (for greasing the muffin tin)
  • 1 egg (for brushing the pastry)
  • Apple jam
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

PREPARING

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Wash, peel, and quarter the apples. Remove the cores and slice them into thin strips.
  3. Place the sliced apples in a saucepan, drizzle with lemon juice, cover with water, and cook for a few minutes until they become soft and flexible. Let them cool.
  4. Cut the puff pastry into strips about 8 cm wide. Then, cut the strips in half to make 6 evenly sized pastry strips.
  5. Spread a thin layer of apple jam over each strip, then sprinkle with a mix of brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Arrange the apple slices along the long edge of each strip, slightly overlapping each other.
  7. Fold the bottom half of the pastry over the apples and gently roll it up to form a rose shape.
  8. Place the rolled roses into a buttered muffin tin.
  9. Brush the tops of each rose with a beaten egg.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  11. Carefully remove the baked roses from the tin and, if desired, dust them with powdered sugar.
  12. Once cooled, these apple roses make a perfect lunchbox treat for a midday snack or afternoon delight!
