Bao Buns with European Beef

Number of servings: 3
Preparation time: 25 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 ready-made bao buns (for steaming)
  • 300 g European beef (finely chopped or minced)
  • ½ onion
  • A small amount of shimeji mushrooms (grated or in thin strips)
  • A few cherry tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp gochujang paste
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for frying
  • For garnish: Chopped green onion, sesame seeds

PREPARING

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan. Add the beef and fry over medium heat until the meat browns and excess liquid evaporates.
  2. Add the chopped onion, prepared shimeji mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes to the browned meat. Fry until the vegetables noticeably soften.
  3. Add the gochujang paste, soy sauce, pressed garlic, and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly.
  4. Reduce the heat to minimum, add a little water to the pan, and cover with a lid. Simmer for 10 minutes until the meat becomes tender and juicy.
  5. In the meantime, steam the bao buns (about 2-3 minutes) until they are fluffy and hot.
  6. Fill the steamed buns with the prepared filling. Before serving, sprinkle the dish with fresh green onion and sesame seeds.
